Learning is Interesting… Implementing is Fulfilling…

For one month of internship training to the different centers of Hartekamp, we are able to acquire knowledge, skills, specific and innovative strategies and practical approach in handling children and adults with special needs for implementation in the Philippines. We visited Day Care Centers for Children with different disabilities, Special education Centers/Schools for Children and Adults and residential Facilities for Children and Adults.
What we observed and their Goals:
• Sensory Stimulation/ Integration – Sensory processing is the neurological process that organizes sensation from one’s own body and the environment, thus making it possible to use the body effectively within the environment.
• Physiotherapy/Physical/Occupational Therapy – to be aware of their body, people and world around them; to have eye contact; to prevent contractures and further deformities; to provide comfort and make them calm and enjoy life more.
• Picture Communication System – to establish communication with clients by means of pictures.
• Kaleidoscope Method – The focus of the program is Language Development. Children were engaged in play-based learning activities of their interest where there is an interaction between the child and the teacher after each activity.
• Developmental Movement – Sherborne Method – this is an International way of development stimulation by moving and how it is conducted with simple exercises. This is best to clients with attachment disorder and issues on relationships.
• Melba SL – this is an assessment tool with checklist of life skills prior to job placement of people with disabilities.
We were impressed with our friends in the Netherlands and excited to share in the Philippines the innovative knowledge we gained. We both have the same focus in our program. Best welfare and interest of the clients (children and adults) are our goals. Different areas were designed with specific goals and objectives for proper management of handicapped children of various types.

congratzcheers!

We thank EVERYONE for this great opportunity that has been given to us. Upon returning in the Philippines, we will make sure that the expertise we learned will be properly implemented for the benefit of our children. We will never get tired of caring for them. We are proud to say “We become a part of these children’s improvement and development.”
You too can be a part of the children’s lives. With your donations, we can together change their belief and make them feel secured. Let’s help them help themselves.
